David Sullivan, a north Georgia teenager,  reads about the gods of Irish myth and enjoys fantasies drawn from these stories. When a chance encounter with a funeral procession – viewed from an eccentric angle – gifts him with Second Sight, however, the reality of the world of Faerie proves as dangerous as it is fantastic. When David’s brother is stolen and his beloved uncle felled by faerie magic, David enlists friends Alec McLean and Liz Hughes as companions on the quest to save their lives.

The first of the series: Tales of David Sullivan, Windmaster’s Bane was originally published in 1986 as an Avon paperback. This collector’s edition has been updated and re-written lightly by the author, but retains the charm and energy of the original. The new cover is from a painting by Val and Ron Lindahn, whose images have graced work by Piers Anthony, Isaac Asimov, magazines and movies. The Lindahns currently serve as judges in the L Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the future contest.

TOM DEITZ grew up in Young Harris, Georgia, and earned bachelor and master of arts degrees from the University of Georgia. His major in medieval English and his fondness for castles, Celtic art and costumes led Mr. Deitz to the Society for Creative Anachronism, of which he is still a member. He terms himself a “fair-to-middlin” artist. His books reflect his knowledge of Celtic lore and a tenuous grounding in current reality.

He calls himself a "fair-to-middlin'" artist, but readers can judge for themelves as his illustrations enliven the part pages of the new edition of Windmasters Bane.

Iam a lucky I

I am a lucky son-of-a-gun.

Not only was I lucky enough to actually get a novel published – the year Windmaster’s Bane came out there were, I think, something like fifty first novels published in the entire fantasy field – but I’ve also been lucky enough to have an opportunity to revisit work I did, in some cases, very close to twenty-five years ago.

First of all, don’t panic.  The bones and most of the meat of the story are still there.  In fact, there’s a little more meat, because I’ve taken this opportunity to add a few scenes from the points-of-view of Alec, Liz, and Uncle Dale – scenes that I trust don't slow down the original narrative, but might expand on their characters a bit.  There are also a few scenes at the beginning that are intended to foreshadow events at the end that hindsight tends to render a tad too serendipitous.  Nothing of substance has been cut; in fact, a few scenes are now longer and more detailed.  And no really substantive changes have been made in the overall content or concept.

Except one.
